He still gets mad if I try to open the car door for myself.

DC Trip '07 007

On February 20th, 2005, I went on a date with a co-worker that would forever change my life. He was handsome, charming, funny, and quite the gentleman. He opened all the doors for me and told me how pretty I looked. We went to dinner and had a wonderful time! And at the end of the night he walked me to my door and didn’t even try for the standard after-date kiss! I was hooked.

Two and a half years later he took me up to the top of Mt. Spokane at sunset and, while carefully avoiding the deer poop, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

It’s been two years since we were married at the Glover Mansion in Spokane, and they have been two of the best years I could ever imagine. That co-worker turned into my best friend and the most wonderful husband, and I’m looking forward to the rest of our lives together!  Even if there may be a LOT of soccer and car parts involved. :)

Four Month Update!

Once again this month’s update is a bit late, but this time it’s because we were out of town! And yesterday she got shots again, so we postponed it one more day. (Yes, she gets shots every month. We decided to split them up and delay some so she doesn’t get them all lumped together 5 or 6 at a time. She has only had a bad reaction to them once, and she recovered pretty quickly. So far so good!)

At four months, Emily:

…is getting so big! At her 4-month check-up she weighed 13 lbs 11 oz, and measured 24.75 inches long. She’s a tall, skinny little thing! She is wearing size 3-6 month clothes now, and still fits into some of her 0-3 things too. Her head measured at 42 cm, which puts her in the 75th percentile. Lets just say she takes after her daddy on that one. :)

DSC02726

…her hair is finally starting to fall down and lay flat. Sometimes we can comb it down and make it stay, and other times it still shoots up all over the place! I have to say I’m kind of sad to see it falling, her silly hair is her trademark!

DSC02740

…is officially teething. She can’t keep her hands (or anything else) out of her mouth and goes through at least 3 bibs a day with all the drool. We had noticed a little white bump on her lower gums a few weeks ago and it has started poking through just a little bit. Other than soaking her clothing (and ours) with all that drool though, she doesn’t seem too bothered by it yet. Let’s hope they don’t actually come in for a little while!

DSC02727

…loves to play with her toys! She is happy to lay on her blanket and play with rattles and soft toys, but chewing on her bib or her blankets is still her favorite. We introduced her to her Baby Einstein exersaucer toy and she LOVES it. She moves herself from toy to toy and bounces up and down. She’s just getting so big!

DSC02731

…isn’t quite sitting on her own, and still doesn’t roll over by herself. There have been some good attempts though, and she’ll often roll from her back to her side and try to chew on her toes, but no real rolls yet. And tummy time is still her worst nightmare. The second she realizes she’s face-down it’s over. But we keep trying! I’m hopeful that she’ll get mad and push herself over, but it hasn’t happened yet.

DSC02730

…lights up our days (and our nights, three or four times usually. Still. I don’t want to talk about it.) and keeps us moving. Life in a little apartment is rough sometimes, but hearing her giggles and squeals is making it all worth it! We couldn’t be happier with the little girl she’s turning out to be. We love you, little Punkin!

Summer is for visiting family!

What a whirlwind couple of weeks we’ve had! Grandma and Grandpa Shankland came to visit for a week, and shortly after that we drove to Spokane to see Grandma and Grandpa Ancel, and Uncle Zach, Auntie Rachel and Hayden. Busy busy busy!

On top of all the visiting, I had a horrible cold the entire time Sherwood and Eunice were here, and the baby wasn’t feeling great either. But we still had a good time! We shopped, we ate, we enjoyed time together. We are also the proud new owners of a (slightly used) really great high-chair for Emily. She loves it! Thanks grandparents!

A few days later we jumped in the car and drove to visit family in Spokane! We only had a couple of days, but it was great fun! We went shopping with Auntie Rachel, Hayden and Grandma, and she did great! Thanks again for all the nice clothes, you two! :)

Sitting on Grandpa’s lap! (And apparently drooling on him, too.)

We also visited our good friends Tara and Ryan and their new baby Kennedi! She’s beautiful, and so little!

It was a great trip until we got in the car to come home. Apparently, everyone else in the entire state also wanted to go home to Seattle, and we ended up stuck in traffic for THREE EXTRA HOURS. We finally made it home at ten pm. And boy were we glad to be out of the car!

All in all it was a wonderful couple of weeks visiting family. We are so blessed to have so many people that love us! Next up: a possible trip to Virginia for a wedding. Can we do it? We’ll see!!

Daddy’s Girl

What weighs 14 lbs, refuses to sleep for more than two hours, smiles non-stop, and loves her Daddy?

I’ll give you a hint:

*Disclaimer from Daddy: No babies were harmed, or startled too badly, in the making of this video. She went on to giggle another day.
