Gifted!

Today we received a package in the mail. Well, Emily did actually. It was from Grandma and Grandpa Ancel and it was stuffed full of goodies!

Jammies with roses on the toes, blue jeans, long- and short-sleeved onesies, a cute pink cardigan and matching pants, socks, shoes, you name it, this girl has it now!

Grandpa picked out this one for her- her very own “little black dress”!

And a cute red top and pants with ruffles on the butt. That was Rob’s favorite!

She also got letters for her wall, and some scrapbook paper to decorate them with. That will be a fun project!

DSC02603

Grandma has made it a special treat to get all the little ones their own sippy cup with their name on it, and now Emily has one, too!

She grabbed hold of it and didn’t want to let go!

Also in the box was a pink seahorse that glows and plays soft music to help her sleep. It’s not in the pictures, because it’s in her crib with her as we speak! It helped her fall asleep tonight, and we’re hoping it turns into one of her favorite toys. SO SHE SLEEPS.

Thanks Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Rachel! We love you tons!!

Bath Time!

Emily is really starting to like bath time, and that makes mama and daddy like it too!

Three Month Update!

Emily Marie turned three months old on July 14th, but due to the reactions from her second round of shots we had to put off the update post for a few days. It was nothing too serious, just some swelling and a fair amount of crankiness, but we didn’t want to make it harder on her and try to get pictures. So, better late than never, here is her three month update!

DSC02557

At three months, Emily:

…is much happier and far less fussy than she was last month (other than when she gets shots that is… poor thing)! She only cries when she really needs something lately, and doesn’t fuss much at all, most of the time. She will certainly still let us know if we’re doing something wrong though, like making her do tummy-time, which she still hates.

DSC02577

…is starting to entertain herself more and more each day. She likes her play mat and her bouncy seat, and will spend short periods of time looking at and trying to grab the toys. If it were up to her though, she’d have either her mom or daddy right there with her playing all day long. One of her favorite things is to try and stand up on our laps and look around, and she is bearing weight on her legs really well now. She loves to grab anything that comes within her reach, especially clothing (hers, ours, bibs, blankets, you name it). However, she does NOT like to be held much by anyone other than her parents, and if she’s upset it’s Mama all the way.

DSC02566

…still falls over on to Monkey-Do every time. :)

…has stopped sleeping through the night. I’m not going to get into the details, but suffice it to say, I’ve purchased the baby sleep books and can’t read them fast enough!

DSC02570

…is still sleeping in our room, but has outgrown her bassinet so now she is in the pack-n-play. She still needs to be swaddled to sleep, otherwise her arms flail all over and she ends up smacking herself in the face all night. That’s not good for anyone. Most of the time she starts out in the pack-n-play but ends up in bed with us. Sneaky little Punkin. ***EDIT: Last night, 7/16, she spent the first night in her own room. She still refuses her crib, but she’s been taking naps in her swing in there for a few days so we thought we’d try that for the night. She did pretty well, only waking once to eat and then right back to sleep! I’m not going to jinx us any further though!***

DSC02561

…is now wearing 3 month clothes, and even some 3-6 month things! A lot of the 0-3 things are too small now, and we’re finally getting into the cute summer clothes we have. The weather has started cooperating too, so cute dresses and shorts it is!

DSC02574

…is really starting to let her personality shine! She coos and chirps and babbles while she’s on our laps, and LOVES to smile her best, gummiest smile when she sees her Daddy. She’s really starting to play with us more, and smiles and talks up a storm! We may need to get her her own cell phone soon.

DSC02569

…is drooling, and drooling, and drooling. And drooling. We go through at least a couple of bibs a day and it’s only getting worse! Some have mentioned teething, but I’m not ready for that yet! We’re waiting to see if anything shows up on her gums. Eek.

DSC02543

Without a doubt, this parenting experience is proving to be one of the hardest and most energy intensive time of our lives! But it is moments like this one, and the sound of Emily cooing after a hard day, that bring a smile to even the weariest face, and keep us excited to see what tomorrow will bring!

We love our punkin very much!!!

Humble Pie, Anyone?

Remember that post where I talked all about how well Emily was sleeping, and how great it was, and how RESTED I felt? Well, I was right. I did jinx myself, and now she’s back to waking up two or three times a night, and last night it was FIVE TIMES. I’ve decided not to talk about her sleep habits ever again. EVER.

Mama’s tired, so enjoy these pictures of our first and second trips to the park. I’m gonna to take a nap. :)

Long Time, No Sleep

As soon as I wrote it, I knew it was a bad idea. The night I mentioned that Emily had become a pro-sleeper, she decided to make me a complete liar and revert to her old (and less than stellar) sleeping habits. She will nap here and there, but the oh-so-enjoyable 7 and 8 hours straight at night we were getting are back to 4 or 5, if we’re lucky. So I’m sorry for the lack of posts, but sleep deprivation makes for crappy writing. Ugh.

We’ve been trying EVERYTHING, and I think it’s got to do with being swaddled. Since she was born she’s always loved being swaddled, and one of our favorite baby gifts was a Halo Sleep Sack with the “wings” for swaddling. Except now she’s outgrown the part that she zips into, so we’ve just taken the wings and used those over the top of a regular swaddling blanket (by the way Mom, yours are the only ones she doesn’t immediately break out of! Good work on those!!!). It seems to work ok for a while, but she’s quite the little Houdini and is constantly breaking her arms out of the swaddle in the middle of the night, which of course causes her to wake up. And then, of course, WE wake up too, what with all the thrashing and grunting that goes on while she bonks herself in the face with the escaped arm.

So I gave in and ordered a Miracle Blanket, and I really do hope it’s a miracle!

Also, I finally got the video to work! Here’s proof, and a few pictures.
