We have officially entered the eat-by-myself phase. As soon as I get the baby food jar out, Emily covers her face and refuses to eat. Anything that’s mashed, blended, pureed, or otherwise needs to be fed to her with a spoon, is out. Meals have become quite a challenge around here! Crackers, peas, carrots, bread, and pasta are just about the only things on her menu now. And she refuses almost all fruit. Any meal ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The other day we finally just gave her the spoon and let her go to town. She had a blast! I’m not sure how much of the food actually ended up in her mouth, but I guess that wasn’t really the point, right? Ha. Now it’s all she wants to do…
I can see many more food adventures in our future. Away we go!
It must be such a pleasure to look out your kitchen slider at a greenbelt, as opposed to more apartments and more teenagers. Emily looks like the perfect one-year-old learning to feed herself. Fun with gooey food. It reminds me of the old cheerios on the head story. I love how the poor kid has to be stripped down to eat. I know! It's so much less messy for the clothes. She looks like she's having a blast. Can't wait to see you all. Emily's birthday party will be a great bash. Hope the weather cooperates. We can cook outdoors, and put up the hammock, porch swing, etc., and have rides on the tractor. Two more weeks! YAY! My food advice is try handing her cooked brocoli, carrots, etc. that she can hold, and anything else she has liked in the past that she can have the hand-held form, even if it's pie apples that are slippery. Her food tastes probably haven't changed, she just demands to be able to handle it herself. You girls used to like mixed vegetables out of the can, which were bite-size pieces of stuff like carrots, potatoes, green beans, and peas. Try canned asparagus. Interesting taste, and she can hold it. Can't wait two more weeks! It's killing me! Love you all. MOM
